    Default Other xp accounts

I'm running XP and members of my family have been messing this up. How can I set up so they can operate the pc and all the programmes without being able to access my folders and files?

I know this is probably an easy question but I tried to create a new user account but it would not show all my programmes!

Set your account as admin and make all the others "limited users"

Also set your account to files and folders hidden - so they will not be access by anyone but yourself.

All can be done in Control Pannel > User Accounts.

Under "Change account type" - etc etc.

Edit: As for the programs - you should be able to set who can use/see what.

Options such as "My account only" or "anyone who uses this computer".

Where exactly they are im not 100% sure... sorry!

Thanks mate. I can't see the option to change files and folders to hidden though! Where is this?

You should just have tick boxes like shown in the pic - just deny access to the bits you don't want

Here goes mate. I hope I've done it right. Where it says make folders private, I can't tick the box. I must be in the wrong place eh?

On a similiar note. The limited user account that I've created can't access the internet. It mentions something about wrong username etc. How do I fix this. I've enclosed a screenshot. I don't know how to do those thumbnail screenshots yet so bear with me please.

Bet your drive is Fat32 mate (right click c:\ and properties and it will tell you just under drive label), you cant add premissions to folders on FAT32 but however you can run a utlilty that will convert your drive to NTFS which is where you can use permissions in command prompt type
convert drive_letter: /fs:ntfs I have done this before and worked a treat but there is still chance it could do alot of damage so it depends how much you want to secure your machine.

After you have changed the drive to NTFS do what blacksheep says about simple file security and your away, just remove everyone from whichever folder (untick the allow inherititable permissions, copy when pop up box appears)and add yourself (click advanced, tick "Reset child permissions" this will set these permissions on all files and folders inside that folder)and thats it they cant access it anymore.

I am a cocky git (as group policies on a single machine is not meant ot be possible) so I have denied myself access to the group policy folder but everyone else has access so when they log on group policies lock them down so they cant access folders/restricted program list etc but when I log on i have everything.
