IP address change

I'm on telewest and today for the 1st time in 5 or 6 years my ip address changed, is this unusual with telewest to keep an ip for so long?

I tried to remote in to my pc and this turned out to be the prob should i expect it to change again - or is it related to the maintenance work they were doing in the south west today?

Mine stayed static for around a year, then changed after a reboot of my modem., and now seems to change every 4 months or so. I would say you have been very lucky never to have had a new ip in 5 years.....

Been using N*L cable modem for a long time now and in past experiences i found that powering off the modem for long periods releases your IP. Obviously on power up you are leased a new ip. Ive never left the modem powered up long enough to see how long the dynamic ip stays the same.
