    Default Task Manager Gone?

Hi all. I'm really stuck on this problem. I had Norton, Synmatic, and spydoctor security running on my machine untill it expired. I uninstalled it all and then installed AVG. Since I did this my win xp admin user account won't allow me to launch Task Manager when holding ctrl+alt+delete, and won't allow me to select it when I right click on the task bar! When I do try to launch it, it says it's been disabled by the administrator.

There are 3 users on this machine. 2 admins and one limited user. I am 1 of the admins. The ltd user can launch task manager and so can the other admin user. I also now can't turn the machine off when I select start. All I can do is log off, then select turn off the system. The other users all can switch user, log off and switch down the system as the red, yellow and green icons are displayed!

This has taken me ages to try and sort out and I have got know-where. Any ideas how I can restore these?

    dainese -

Download and run a copy of "Hijack This" (Google for it) and it'll probably list and give you the option to remove the registry settings that are disabling the services that you can't access.

    Hope this helps

Instructions here on how to re-anable it.

Best to get rid of whatever crap has caused it too.

Cheers fella's. I tried everthing I could thinl of and made things worse! I created accounts that had these options, but when I tried using things like Office Outlook, it wanted the disc's to recover files. Although Outlook worked fine in the previous created accounts.

It is back and working now with that downloadable file. Although how to get the option to 'Turn off Computer' without first logging off is still a problem. And the run option in the start menu is missing too. Any ideas on this?

Go to \Windows\System32 dir and type "mmc gpedit.msc"
Then: User conf. -> Admin. templates -> System -> Ctrl+Alt+Del Options
