Info 2.71 Special Edition (SE) Custom Firmware Revision A

2.71 Special Edition (SE) Custom Firmware Revision A

    Released see http://www.dark-alex.org/

This is a custom firmware that lets to have in a single flash the advantages of firmware 1.50 and
    2.71 at the same time.

Homebrew can be run on both kernels, the 1.50 one and the 2.71 one, letting almost all current homebrew
to work on the 1.50 kernel, and 2.71 homebrew compatible with HEN C in the 2.71 kernel.

Note: the installer writes to FLASH0. I'm not responsable of any damage of what happens,
since this software is provided free and without warranty.
TA-082 users cannot use this because a 1.50 bootstrap is needed to boot the system patched.

At the moment, there is only installer for 1.50, although it could be easily ported to whatever
firmware with kernel access such as 2.60 and 2.71, but at the moment i prefer not to doing it to avoid
TA-082 using it and bricking their psp's.

Note that this package DOES NOT contain any illegal material. The user has to provide the 1.50 and
2.71 updaters pbp's to legally generate the DXAR file used for the flashing.

I asked this on blackcats this morning, maybe you chaps can help...

assuming you have a 1.5, whats the point in this if all you do is emulate 2.71 in devhook anyway.?

I did this last night because I, mistakenly, thought that ISO loading would be enabled in the XMB with this firmware....but you still have to load devhook anyway....

    its pointless isn't it?

    Cheers

i was pretty much wondering the same thing bugnote, the only benefits i can see by using this is you would probably get faster startup times when using the newer features in 2.71 as they would be loaded from the actual firmware memory instead of memory card?

yeah, looking on maxconsole it looks like native iso loading from the xmb is on the todo list. i don't really use much homebrew stuff so this looks like its pretty useless to me until native iso loading appears

right, looks like there is a benefit to this for us iso users. The updated devhook uses the flashed custom firmware instead of from the memory stick, much quicker loading times. Also as no firmware on MS, dh folder is about 112kb!

I take it all back, quite happy now. That and you can get rid of the autoboot and sony intro screen quite easily.

Looks like this is a good step in the right direction for us 'homebrew' users.

using 2.71 SE now and find it really good but have a question?

Is there anyway to startup the psp and have devhook enabled or disabled by the WIFI switch like the Harleyg's custom firmware?

There is a updater file to run from 2.71 SE-A on your PSP to do the change. I did it all from scratch from 1.50 as I had gone back to 1.50 as I had problems playing Killzone.

There is a full installer here.

You run it and it copies all the necessary files onto your memory stick.

Then you just run the firmware flasher after it's done.

You need 75% battery or more and apparently shouldn't have a UMD in when doing it.

    Worked fine for me.

As usual all the standard warnings about flashing firmware and potentially buggering your PSP.
