WIN Xp will nott bootup

Hi guys any ideas why evertime i boot my pc it is stuck on a blue screen which displays an Error ( Unamountable disk )
I've tried WIN Xp recovery instalation Cd but that did not help ...
Anyone know how to get it working again without doing a full installion ?
This problem occured when my son pressed the OFF switch on the pc instead of doing a formal shutdown

Sounds like a hard drive problem. Does the bios boot up ok?

What did you try from that CD ?

do the following, just fixed that problem on my bosses daughters laptop.

Boot with winxp cd and go to recovery console (press r when it asks)
At the command prompt type
fixboot c:
fixmbr
chkdsk /r (takes a while)

If it's the same issue (she ok the battery off when shutting down, impatient mere) that should work.

That's really odd. I went and fixed a laptop a couple of days ago with the exact same error.
