USB controller not recognized when dvd drive connected

Hi hope this is the right place to post this, total newbee to forums. I recently tried to flash my XBox 360 Samsung drive without success. I gave up in the end as my drive would not be detected. After rebuilding the 360 my USB controllers are not recognized and no dashboard/picture comes on screen, Wireless one wont be picked up and wired just flashes all 4 lights at the same time intermitently as for the XBox Console light which indicates connected controllers, they do not come on at all. The thing is when I open the case back up and start the xbox 360 with the dvd drive unplugged all joysticks are picked up as normal and the dashboard/picture appears on screen as normal. Can anyone help or have any ideas, this is my sons 360 I got him for his birthday and I'm gutted. Thanks in advance

4 lights flashing is the RF cable not attached.
Which samsung do you have?

Thanks for replying, I fixed the problem, I had not earthed my console when connected to the PC so i sort of fried the dvd drive. I've replaced it with a hitachi now so all is good.
