Attention Help needed finding the chips

hi i need some guidence locating the chips on some cars, is the a website or some thing that tells me which chip i need to read.

i got a mazda 626 dash yesterday to test out but it had two chips. which looked the same, and when i read both of them i got incorrect values,

today i got a 2004 vauxhall vectra dash from the scrapys to test and cant locate the chip on this either.

i recieved the manuals but the manuals dont show me detailed pictures or give me detailed descriptions.

since getting the equipment ive only managed to do a couple of golfs and s3's, cant seem to do any thing else. i must be doing something wrong. even if i can do one car with the chip ill be happy.

    please help.

Well aint that just great support. I bet they've got folks bashing their door down to buy their equipment - Hopefully this little bit of publicity will influence those wishing to buy their equipment, aint the Internet a great thing.

Vectra picture attached, remove the mileage display from its support carefully and do not damage the ribbon cable then unclicp the cradle. It is OK to read in circuit but I would short the silver cannister osc on the other side of the PCB to be sure.

626 has two types of eeprom one with a DIL eeprom and one with a SOIC.

cheers keyscoob, thats exactly what i was looking for. thank you so much.

i just took the back cover off, i didnt know you had to strip the front aswell.

keyscoob - have you got any more of these pics to show other cars. that will be great help.

dont get me wrong the digi prog is a wicked system, looks nice and very easy to use, im a complete novice and found it very user friendly, ive sussed most of the plug and play cars out its just the other ones are causing problems for me.

Kaz... the iron I listed comes with a hot air attachment, ideal for removing and resitting smd's...you will need to flod these with solder if you are using a conventional iron,

with the pyropen just gently warm all legs and off it comes....happy days

    Without wishing to sound rude,
Unless you only paid a couple of quid for the machine, it must have come with some pictures!

If your gonna remove alot of these type chips buy a proper rework station there quite cheep
now .And with working on the plastic type pcb less chance of melting it if the
propane gun flares up ,wich they do all the time.

    Plug

Serious Re: Help needed finding the chips

I have pictures of the eeprom but not of the osc well not for the 06year i have it for the 04 but they are different i've got a general idea what i'm looking for as people have helped me would just like to be dead sure and will post step by step proceedure for forum users for future reference when i do it so people like me don't have to with people saying have you bought a ten bob machine which is less than helpfull as these tossers started somwhere and probably had help to learn new car's...!!!!

Thanks for the help the guys that have assisted me and other members as i thought forums were a place to come for advice not snotty remarks like some folk give.

Sorry for the language guys but some people get right on my tits as if they knew it all when they started doing this...!.!.!:emot87:

later vectras have a very small SMD xtal. Just short the outer two legs. I dont bother shorting Xtals on vectras at all unless it was the earlier dil type which could be easily shorted with a crocodile clip.

And here is the algo if you need it:

    Vauxhall/Opel Vectra 2002+ 93c66 Mileage Algo

Data held and repeated at 01F0h to 01FFh

    Calculation is in MILES

    Expected Result: F26F = ~55555 MILES

    (Hex2Dec (F26F XOR FFFF)) x 16

    Hex2Dec 0D90 * 16

    3472 * 16 = 55552 Miles
