You have one with the very small SMD xtal then, it is dead easy to see it is silver in colour.

    Options are:

    1) Short the outer two connections
    2) Remove eeprom
    3) Do like me and just program the bugger!

Yes that is the algo if you want to do it manually.

If you have popped a motor at all during the strip-down as can happen they are quite easy to rebuild.

So is it easier to remove the eeprom rather than try to program on the board as i'm abit dubious about takeing it off....!!!!!

    Cheers

The needles need to be twisted anti-clockwise, not levered up. These are the same motors that are in the Honda Civic. I broke two on one recently and had to replace them.

If there is an easy way to repair these motors then please share.

Yes, strip them down, two metal tabs to twist and split the motor. Usually what happens is a small worm gear is detached from the other gears. Rectify this and rebuild. The motors are not soldered to the cluster PCB at all.
