Default Think I need to go on a health and safety course.

I have a new job replacing aerials and installing satelite tv and all that cobblers but I have a big problem with ladders... not getting up them or anything... just the general use and safety..

last week I left the ladders unattended for two minutes whilst I went the van... and a gust of wind took them away into the neighbouring house where I was working.. Imagine my embarrasment when I had to go a knocking to ask for my ladders back..

Then Friday we were part way through a job and got called to help another rigger, anyway as we were going to the job my mate missed the turn and slammed on... all I heard was a gentle swooshing sound then the clatter of aluminuim on tarmac as the ladders took off like a fookin javelin into the middle of the road... yup
I had forgotten to lash them down.

Then today the creme de la creme.. I had to go to another job where a tech needed a meter and we had to check the signal on a dish.. (NOT MY JOB) and when I was talking the ladders down they slipped and went straight through the customers porch..

on reflection I love my job but I realy think I need to address the ladders issue... or just get myself a little ladder bitch to do all my carrying of said scaling devices.

Ahh well thats that off my chest cant wait to see if I can go a week without incident next week... roll on friday.

well considering you are sat right on top of the mast at winter hill you should just stretch out a coat hanger and lash that in the back of your TV lol

Here you go FF. H&S yourself to sleep.

Safe use of ladders, step ladders and trestles
    INTRODUCTION

1 This Guidance Note has been prepared by HSE following a recommendation made by the Construction Industry Advisory Committee that guidance on scaffolding and the use of ladders should be produced. Related notes are GS 15, GENERAL ACCESS SCAFFOLDS, and PM 30, SUSPENDED ACCESS EQUIPMENT. During its preparation individual experts, employers' organisations and Trades Unions were consulted. HSE is grateful also to the British Standards Institution for the use of information given in BS 1129 and 2037 in which more detail is given. Whilst not all the ladders in use are made to these standards they form a basis of good quality and the publications also contain guidance on the use and storage of ladders........:emot107:

I know, I did need to buy a booster for 2 of the TV's in the bedrooms here.

another thing radio reception is crap on the retail park at junction 6 of the m61 have you put a ladder up there or something? maybe you put a ladder there instead of a mast?

While I was looking on the HSE site to see how to report FF - I saw this, good advice for all of us, not just hair dressers.

It's simple - use disposable gloves, dry your hands thoroughly and moisturise.
