    Question Plagued with slow speeds

I've been having problems for ages since upgrading to MAXADSL basically when I was first on the service I was getting speeds of between 500 - 800k /sec and that was fantastic but that was short lived and then came the reality. I was one of the first to get maxadsl so was all good in my part.

Now here's the problems I am experiencing, slow speeds, I assume (and I will post all my configs etc etc from my router at the bottom of this post) I am doing everything correctly and should be getting faster speeds as I connect at usually 4032 Kbps down and 832 up. Now I know its not the ISP as it happened when I was with ace-internet and even now with ukfsn.

Up until last week I tolerated it as I was getting 350 KB/sec and that was me but I know for 100% I should be getting faster than that but now all I am getting is max 175, never ever goes past that as if its a limit.

Now I'll stop boring you with all the groans and moans and post what I need to post for some intelligent person to say I am a tit and that I am infact doing something totally wrong which is making my line go so slow, so here goes:

    DSL Status : Up
    DSL Modulation Mode : GDMT
    DSL Path Mode : INTERLEAVED
    Downstream Rate : 4032 Kbps
    Upstream Rate : 832 Kbps

    VPI : 0
    VCI: 38

    PVC Status : Applied

    Pcr Rate: cps

    Scr Rate: cps

    VPI (Range 0~255) 0

I just reset the router to make sure that it wasn't something on the line and when I conncted it up again I got the same speeds which majorly pissed me off...

So can anyone figure out whats wrong/what I am doing wrong.

    Cheers,

    Tam.

You sure your not been throttled by your isp m8 through traffic shaping?

nah mate, i am with ukfsn and i dont really smash the limits or get close to them. doing around 30 - 40 gig peak time and around 200 off peak which is totally fine as i am on a 45 gig peak and 300 gig off peak package.

no one else is even reporting problems like me.

You tried asking BT for a line check?

Failing that have you tried leaving your modem off for say a few hours then plugging it again?

Should force the modem to start scanning for the optimal signal but may take a few days to stabilise.

The fact that your downstream is fluctuating so badly might indicate a problem with the line or the modem itself so its worth getting a line check done if possible.

Tam, PM me, ive got a piece of software that will trace the route of data to an IP and you should be able to see if there is a problem along the route. You can then ring them up and tell them where the problem is.

    UPDATE:

Well I went out and bought a new router yesterday, a belkin54g fucker. Plugged it in put in settings and woosh fuckign fast as fuck, woop, I love this I'm thinking so, I'm like fucking linksys motherfuckingcocksuckingcunts under my breath. So *idea* pops into my head and I say wait a moment, I cna get my linksys returned and sorted and then I can punt it on.

I call linksys to get an rma and the wee indian bloke (that i have to admit was quite good) says he had to walk me through some steps so that he can validate the return, so I was like OK OK, he walked me through and eventually told me to put in 1458 in the MTU box change it from auto to manual and then hard reset the router, which I did. I then go and do a download with wget to check it out and woosh fucking great speeds, 350+ and am like what a man I'll take that fucking belkin cunt back as its been a setting all along.

Went out with me mate chrimbo shopping last night and feeling fleeced I thought I'll go and download some good pron from newsies and wank meself silly, get 6 movies queued and press start, bang wallop 8k a second like fucking usual, I start fucking ranting and raving, I replace the linksys again with the belkin and then plug it in, try my newsies again, still THE SAME FUCKING SPEED. So I thought to myself I'll try and download nothing from newsies but everywhere else, it worked, so the conclusion is, that if I download from newsies my connection goes to the dogs altogether on everything but if I don't use newsies at all my connection is great until I use it.

Now that is very strange, I am using sabnzbd to download and I can't relate anything to that at all...

So has anyone got any further ideas to this fucking madness?

    Cheers again guys!

I'd say the same mate, but I've never heard of anyone else getting stringed up this way from ukfsn.org

    I'll email and ask them..

I would also tell them how dissatisified you are with the service and would not recommend your enormous community of friends/colleagues to use them either. Ask them exactly what they are doing to solve your problems and tell them previous ADSL connections have been fine so it can't be the line.

I had the same problem with Ace & UKFSN, it was never resolved. I moved ISP's. They even had the cheek to charge me after a BT engineer came out and couldn't find a fault with the line.

Who was it you eventually moved to mate? Also did your phone automatically answer after 1 or 2 rings? I've done a full buy out of all kit and using all new kit from the line, new cordless twin set, new filters, new wires and new router and the problem still persists and i know bt will say it is my fault somehow..

Never had any problems with the phone, I think both isp's did though as whenever I rang they never answered. I am now with ADSL24

I'm now getting similar problems - also using newsgroups/grabit. I'll try newsleecher.......If I can get a working copy!

Presume newsleecher uses a different port to grabit?

Is there any other proggies other than grabit/newsleecher......preferably a freebie.
