I would much prefer it if it was another next gen movie...or at least one based in the most recent time-line.
But it's a post 1990 trek movie....so it's going to be good whatever, especially with JJ Abrams on board
Shooooooo-ryuken!
I think I`d like to see a next gen movie. This said however most of the actors are getting on a bit so I cant really see a way to revive them.
I think we can just skip DS9, and TOS is suffering a similar fate to TNG...I wonder if they can work Voyager in? I dont mind Voyager too much...just as long as they dont bring back the...yawn...borg!
They could even do a movie of Enterprise...gah!
I think this will be a desperate attempt at sillyness...and this coming from a Trek fan.
Recent Mac convert...
All the stories I've read about it mate, have pointed to it being an original series prequel, with a young Kirk and Spock.
Doesn't sound that good to me as I don't like TOS, but it should be good enough to watch.
Of course, this film has already gone through several iterations over the last few years, so this could have been changed.
Shooooooo-ryuken!
Would like to see a Voyager film, i like the Borg.
Also following on from Enterprise would be cool and how the federation gets together.
The Next Generation has ran its course, the original series cast are either dead or too confused, Voyager was OK but lacked truly great characters, likewise DS9. Nobody would go and see Enterprise so in my opinion they're 100% bang on the money in doing a prequel like this. JJ Abrahams involvement makes me think that there'll be bags of cash spent on the film as well so it'll probably look lovely and 'd be happy were Matt Damon to take the role of Kirk.
No, I'm excited at what I've read thus far. This could in all honesty be the best Star Trek film ever. Not that there were that many great movies anyway.
Star Trek film gets release date
The 11th Star Trek film, to be directed by Lost creator JJ Abrams, will be released in the US on Christmas Day 2008, Paramount Pictures has announced.
Abrams said the new film would "chart its own course"
The film, which will focus on the early lives of Captain James T Kirk and Mr Spock, will begin shooting this autumn.
No further details have been announced and the movie has yet to be cast.
But Abrams - who directed the third Mission: Impossible film last year - said he wanted "to make a picture for life-long fans and the uninitiated".
"Needless to say I am honoured and excited to be part of this next chapter of Star Trek," he added.
'Brilliance and optimism'
The original Star Trek TV series, created by Gene Roddenberry, ran from 1966 to 1969.
It went on to spawn 10 feature films, numerous spin-offs and a billion-dollar industry of books, computer games and consumer products.
The last Trek film, Star Trek: Nemesis, was released in 2002 and featured the stars of the Next Generation TV series.
PREVIOUS TREK FILMS
The Motion Picture (1979)
The Wrath of Khan (1982)
The Search for Spock (1984)
The Voyage Home (1986)
The Final Frontier (1989)
The Undiscovered Country (1991)
Generations (1994)
First Contact (1996)
Insurrection (1998)
Nemesis (2002)
The most recent TV spin-off, Star Trek: Enterprise, came to an end in 2005.
The latest feature, which has yet to be named, will tell of Kirk and Spock's first meeting at Starfleet Academy and their first outer space mission.
Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci, who worked with Abrams on Mission: Impossible III, have written the screenplay.
"If there's something I'm dying to see, it's the brilliance and optimism of Roddenberry's world brought back to the big screen," said Abrams.
"Alex and Bob wrote an amazing script that embraces and respects Trek canon but charts its own course." Paramount Pictures chairman and CEO Brad Grey said he "could not be more thrilled to be back in business with JJ Abrams". As well as directing the film, Abrams will co-produce with Lost co-creator Damon Lindelof.

There are 3 types of people in the world - those who make things happen, those who watch things happen; and those who wondered what happened.
