Default freeview aerial advice needed please

    hi
I've just bought a DVDplayer which has a built in freeview decoder and as I was expecting the aerial supplied is useless. I was aware this would happen andd now need some advice on getting one which will give satisfactory results. I'll be using it when I go camping etc.. I know signal depends on coverage but can anyone recommend a portable aerial to me please.
I've seen items from Necvox which claim to do the job but I'm a complete newbie here so need some advice.
    many thanks in advance

Don`t know about portable aerials but you will need an amplifier. My dad has one in his caravan and without the amp on he gets just over half the channels and turns the amp on and everything comes in.

I take the ebay link with a pinch of salt as 96db gain is massive.I don`t think a sat lnb has that much amplification and that is saying something. From memory a high gain aerial is perhaps 16db but I am probably wrong.Check Wolfbane for freeview coverage.A link is here on this page.- ___http://www.radioandtelly.co.uk/reception.html#indoor If this hopefully dead link isn`t allowed I appologise and please remove it.It also talks about amplifiers. My dads caravan one is 10db of gain.

96db gain pmsl wheres the amp??? but seriously read the above link and does it have to be indoor??? coz youll loose about 10-15dB of signal by having the aerial inside. outdoor is the best solution if you can

the player is to be used when camping if the weathers not the best! so the aerial could go outside the tent but don't want to take a big aerial with me.. I'll look a right prat!
I've done some reading so will get one this weekend..
    cheers

Just a quick note from personal experience. I got a fancy new aerial and amplifier to feed the TVs in our house as our digi telly kept freezing. It still does, it was nowt to do with the aerial. I have yet to run a feed from the amp to my daughter's room so her digi box is running off a normal, unamplified indoor aerial. It's not the round one that comes with a telly but the one that looks a bit like a cross between a real aerial and a load of coat hangers of diminishing size! It is simply balanced on top of her wardrobe and gives a brilliant picture, but it has to be in the right position or half the channels disappear. You may find the supplied aerial is good enough if you're in a decent signal area and have it pointing in the right direction, especially with no brick walls in the way.

    Good luck.

It sounds like your signal is really strong and you need an attenuator on the main aerial.

Cheers. Not been on for ages, so only just seen this. Will look into the attenuator thing.
