    Default Muscle Definition

    I had heard something the other day about muscle definition along the lines of:

    Unless you have a certian amount of testosterone in your body you can work out as much as you like but will never achieve muscle definition i.e. 6 pack and the stereotypical V shaped upper body.

    What do you think about this?

    Lot of shite if you work muscles they become bigger and stronger, But you can only go so far naturally and thats when people feel the need to use steroids and supplements.
    Some young guys you see use them without doing much exersise but they deflate like a burst ball when they stop taking them.

    To get definition you need to build muscle and lose excess fat. Low intensity CV combined with a good weights routine will do this.

    Here's the Karvonen Formula for working out your target heart rate for fat burn:

    220-(Age) = X

    X - RHR (resting heart rate) = XR

    (XR*65% (low end)) + RHR = Low End of Target Heart Rate
    (XR*85% (high end)) + RHR = High End of Target Heart Rate

    Some will find it harder than others but it's possible for anyone to build up and become more defined.

    No, the statement 'you can work out as much as you like but will never achieve muscle definition' is definately not true. Genetic factors can influence how well a person responds to weight training but implementing the basics well will always yield results pertaining to much better muscle definition. Put (very) simply, weight training stimulates the muscles to grow, cardiovascular exercise burns fat. If you eat appropriately to complement these activities (eg. appropriate protein in diet, not eating shit) then your body has to respond by losing weight and increasing muscle size. This happens in all cases to varying levels. Things such as the V shaped body are influenced by genes but can also be shaped by the above acitvities.

    So if you're worried about not being able to do it, bollocks! Get on with it, you'll be really happy. Personally I can't fu(king be arsed with exercise though, which is a pity.
