Xbox 360 Commodore4Eva's response to Copy Protection Wars: Analysing Retro and Modern Schemes

In response to the conclusion's formed by Nate Lawson ...
    Repairing the hole

"Attackers only have tenuous hold on drive"
Commodore4Eva - Complete control of drive, any command or code sent to drive from host can be analysed and appropriate response given to host

"Defence: check that responses vary appropriately"
Commodore4Eva - Code already written to vary responses and will be implemented when required, current responses satisfy host code

"Defence: use same debug commands to load disc-specific hashing code into drive, check for patched firmware"
Commodore4Eva - As we have complete control of firmware, we can analyse each debug command sent from host and again formulate the appropriate response to host

"Defence: look for ss.bin????? file via host or code loading into drive"
Commodore4Eva - Xtreme firmware already locks host from reading illegal ranges of LBA once drive is unlocked, so host cannot read Xtreme Security Sector (not a SS.bin file). Again if debug command or code sent to drive, we can analyse and formulate the appropriate response to host

    Conculsion
Drive is completely compromised and can be programmed to give the correct response to any query. If host changes the rules, so do we.
With any recorded media, the data is static, in content and position, so always hackable.

    Coming soon for Xtreme firmware

some of em might not have to be re burnt. The default.xbe has to have it's digital sig intact, if it does then it should work.
You see, TheThingIs, eventually you'll be all right!

It's a shame though, because doing it for BenQ and Hitachi as well means it'll take him 3x as long

region free for dvd movies - sweet! This is the main thing for me... my v2.2 for hitachi is great at the moment, but adding region free movies will be fab.

Next thing after this would be region free for games too - then it is complete until any homebrew and HD mods become available to really complete the 360!

If at first you dont succeed, try, try again - then stop... there's no point being an idiot about it!

the fw hack will not be able to do region free games as the xbe (or whatever it is now) contains region data and is signed, so it just cant be altered, if it could it would be home brew time

Dvds are not signed so I suppose he can fake the region the disk responds as to enable different region playback as the dash has no ability to check the validity of the data as long as its on par with the dvd standard.
