what changes did you make to your system before you rebooted? any new applications or devices installed?
None but i tried to recover it with xp install disc and it say the partion is unknown and it want to format, so i need a good recovery program.
have you deleted and recreated your boot sector?
IMac, MacBook Pro, Ipad 2, Iphone 4, Iphone 3GS....Oh and a PC or 2 knocking about
Well i reckon this all happened because my pc froze for 10 mins and i powered it off never booted back pass the xp screen since.
sounds like either the hard drive is broken or the controller is shagged
i find IDE cables are very unreliable, sometimes swapping them about or unplugging it and plugging it back in can be a tempoary soloution to get your data back, but otherwise you are looking at a new hdd tbh
maybe try the HDD in another computer just to check it isnt the controller on the mothreboard
i dont know of any data recovery programs and afaik they arent cheap. getting it done professionally is prohibitively expensive too (really just for companies to whom the data is very valuable). you'll back the fucker up next time

first thing I would have done was put the drive as a second drive in another machine. Check the integrity using scandisk (NTFS only) if your still using fat then your screwed!. then try it back in the machine sometimes you can get away with it.

1st thing to try as I do whenever customers of mine have this problem... Get yours/their xp disk and try a repair... normally works...
