You have to have the carbide drill lined up spot-on, or it will just break or shatter.
The A002 is the way to go, if going to an engineering shop ask them to slot drill the part you have hardened to gain a flat surface again, then centre drill it before drilling. Once you get past the bit you`ve hardened like glass by running the drill too fast it shouldn`t be a problem atall.
Bench mounted drill is probably the best idea.And don`t forget to cool it down with some coolant if you have any, will make the world of difference.
