Honda Civic Differences? (01-05)

Well i've been looking at 3dr honda civic hatchbacks for a car, the 1.6 VTEC Sport especailly.

Now i've seen a few around at dealers and i was sold when i saw the car but cant afford most of them, now after looking around some more i've seen that there are 1.6 Vtec sports which don't have the type R styling (side skirts, different bumpers), which are standard on some. (I'm not talking about the type S btw).

Are there certain years which have the type R styling on sports or what?

I've got about 5500 to spend on a 1.6 Sport with the type R styling, i have seen them around but they're gone before i get the chance, and the only ones left are the standard looking Honda civics.

What should i be looking for? Certain years or what?

Anyone know if there bodykits for the 01/02 sports ?

I think it was just an optional extra when you bought the car. Not 100% sure though.

Not to sure, but i know for a fact i have a friend with a honda civic that is a few years old now (not sure how many, personalised plate and that!) but he has a type r kit on it. It looks decent, but it needs to be lowered a lot in my opinion!

The new civics are fuking ugly as sin they have totally ruined the looked of the car.

They remeind me of a 1970s Saab from behind.

The 1.6 Sport was released twice, firstly just after the release of that model Civic, then in late 2002 / early 2003 with the Type R bodykit with Sport written on the side instead of Type R. It was definately around this time it was released, I remember seeing it launched at the motor show, just before I bought my old Alfa 147, and that was an 03 reg.

A mate of mine bought that model, it's a really nice car, and decent enough performance for a 1.6, but quite expensive to buy second hand.

Oh and 4me2 I initially agreed about the new Civic, don't like the shape, especially in 5 door, but then this week I got a test drive of the new Type R, it's wicked, and looks a lot better with the body kit etc. on it. I'm thinking of getting one to replace my Golf GTi, it's much more fun to drive, but I think it could do with a bit more power.
