macs are good for that kind of thing - all depends on how much you want to spend though. Probably as with everything else have a look at core II duo

it all depends on how serious you want to get
a company called FAST do video editing cards but there not cheap
with these cards all the rendering etc.. is done onboard and usually in real time not with the cpu so the pc you put the card into isn't that important
but if you go the other route using say a video camera and pinnacle studio or adobe premier even with a very fast pc nothing happens in reall time threre's still a wait state while rendering

if your looking for fast video editing i would be looking at dedicated cards that do everything on board rather than a fast cpu but hey both would be nice

If you want to use the newest version of Premier make sure you get something that has SSE2 enabled as otherwise you are knackered.

its all about clock speed and memory bandwidth

you really need the fastest memory you can get along with a fast processor so the intels tend to do very well

If you are not prepared to spend outrageous amounts of wonga on a dedicated card for encoding, then you only want to be looking at Intel CPU's...they have led the field since day 1 in video encoding.

Agree with that..I have an AMD based PC and a P4 one, and I find the P4 renders a lot more efficiently (Less frame dropping) and quicker than my Sempron even though there is little difference in clock speed/data space and ram etc.
