Help No Valid GPS signal detected

    Hi,

I have a Navman (Mio 168) pocket Pc with built in GPS receiver. I have installed TomTom Navigator 5 and the device is not getting a valid GPS signal.

I have left it out in car for few hours to connect but its doesn't connect.

    Can someone help me please.

    Thanks

    Yogin

Does it connect outside the vehicle ?

It may be down to the windscreen m8. Some screens reflect the signal, therefore you may need an external antenna.

    Ok,

Have you checked the GPS Status Screen, clicked the Preferences button and selected the right receiver and port? If you select "Other NMEA Receiver", set baud rate at 4800 then it will show a list of ports, one should identify itself as GPS, I had a Navman 570 which said that the onboard port was "GPS on Navigator" so I would expect something similar on your Mio.

Once you have selected the right port, try it outside first and see if it locks on by looking at the GPS Status screen. Once you have locked on, put it in the car and if the signal drops you probably have a thermal coated glass windscreen and you will need to get an external antenna to plug into the Mio.

    WTF

I've just gone through the same process with my Mio P550 and Tomtom 6.

I can recommend downloading VisualGPSce. It's a free program and will just try to connect to any GPS satellites it can see, very handy to make sure your GPS is working. Try this first and do it outside, mine took around 1 min to get a fix.

My setup is GPS Program Port: Com4
GPS Hardware Port: Com2 Baud Rate 57600
    Access: Manage GPS Automatically On

    Settings on Tomtom:
    Device: Other NMEA GPS Receiver
    Baud Rate: 57600
    Connected to: Com4

    Best of luck.
