Default 4 and 8 gang sockets

A lad I know is buying a new gaff and before he moves in we wanted to swap out some of the sockets in there for 4 or 8 gang ones. The intention is to network the place and get more that enough ppower points to cover the mass of electricals that need to go in there.

Question is this. I can only find 2 gang flush mounted back boxes to install and really want more that that. I also need to lay my hands on soem network sockets to fit a single flushmounted back box as well.

Anyone have any ideas where I can source front and backplates as specified?

Sorry I can't help much, but I know you can get the wall mount network sockets form maplins, was something like £4-6 each. Check them though, last time I bought some, the idiots hadn't soldered the connector to the pcb.

What type of wall is it , brick or plasterboard ?

Forget *multiple* sockets ( 4 or 8 gang ) and just install your new double sockets into the existing ring.

As for network sockets , how about http://www.tlc-direct.co.uk/Products/GU7071.html

Nice one gents. I have the network plates already and just need the tool to insert the cables in now. I just thought it would look tidier with larger plates to be honest.

I had a look on CPC and they don't seem to have a lot above 2 gang.

Eh? I know you need crimping tool to put the plugs on the connectors, but the sockets I bought from maplins didn't need a special tool, just screwed in with those connectors like the ones you get inside mains plugs.

The network plates I got require an insertion tool that pushes the little cables into the backs of the socket. They are about 2 quid each but I forgot to get one when I bought the ockets some time last year.

i use a few 10 gang bars that normally sit inside full height network cabinets for my systems. I 'aquired' them from my previous networking job.. sure you can get them from usual suppliers.

Thats what I did when running cat 5 all round my house, but I used slightly crippier trunking as it was only the network cables needed to be run.

Bert, I`ll do it if you cover my petrol and stuff.

    Alternativly, try these dudes:

we use them for our kit. We tend to use pressac modules and frontplates...clip together nicely.

wouldnt recommend this. If I were you, or anyone else I`d buy this:

Bargain, and it`ll last years. The plastic ones are normally a single use piece of crap.

Got my crimping tool from a BT engineer who left it behind! If you need any network cables making up, give me a shout - i'm guessing you could do it tho.

Cheers LJ. I actually have access to 1 and a bit km of Cat5 cable that a mate of a mate sourced off a job recently so have no issues there. Gonna have a look round the gaff on Wednesday and see what the requirements are for power cable next.
