Default panasonic toughbook problem help required

i have a panasonic toughbook i carry around and use for work but the last couple of days when i turn it on it takes ages to get to my desktop then either freezes or will not respond when i try opening programmes/shortcuts it just shows the egg timer as the curser.
when i look in task manager everything seems fine except the cpu is running at 99% all the time but all other programmes are using very little memory.
its never been conected to any other computer and never been conected to the net so i know its not a virus does anybody have any suggestions before it gets smashed to pieces ?

    thanks

SOunds like an app is raping the arse out of your cpu mate.. I would recommend shutting down processes in taskmanager one by one till you find the culprit, or load msconfig and check your startup and tsr apps... its a case of elimination really.

i tried my best to sort this with limited knoledge but i must admit it beats me .
if there is anybody who would like to earn a few quid and no doubt fix it for me then they are welcome to do so .
im sure you will just reload windows or something like so it would be nice if maybe you could send me a magic disk or whatever you will use or alternativly i will pay somebody local to fix it maybe a student who needs a few quid etc

    many thanks wiggi28

as burner said you could try msconfig, go to start then run and type msconfig, it should load up the config program then go to startup tab and then disable all, then click apply and reboot, see if that helps as it stops all programs from running when the machine boots into windows, then you can go back in and enable them one by one till you find the culprit, well thats what I'd do anyway

Can't see much point in this now as all he'll do is restore to the same state.

If you're running Win Xp, you could always try the System restore. Start, Program files, Accesories, System Tools, System restore. Select a date from the calender for a time before you had the problem. Let it do it's thing and see how it runs.

I would say that gingertosser is is right in the long term, once the system is working do a clean back up and keep. Next time there is a problem its easy to fix.

If the cpu is showing 99% then it should tell you what process is using that amount.
Can you have a look and report back.
I wouldn't reformat just yet, it could be something really simple like a corrupt file.
Have you managed to try the msconfig route? That should help.
