    Default Prague vs Venice

Me and the fellow can't decide whether to go on a long weekend break to Venice or Prague in June (instead of Glasto) Has anyone been to both and if so which one would you recommend? What are the good and bad points?Which one is generally more expensive? etc etc. Thanks!

Prague = Cheaper and more sluts per sq mile than Amsterdam

Venice = One of the most expensive cities in Europe, teeming with tourists, however, the architecture, museums and gondolas make it more satisfying imho. However, a visit in June is going to be busy, very busy.

    Hey

Obviously when CJ went to Prague, he was too busy ogling the 'sluts' to appreciate the architecture.

Venice is a wonderful city and the Basilica is an awesome sight from within, but in June, the queues will be horrendous.

As for price/costs, they are like chalk and cheese. Dinner in Restaurant in Venice (nothing out of the ordinary), will be approx. £ 30 - £ 50 per head. Praque would be under £ 10.

Things may have changed, my last visit to Prague, was 8 years ago and Venice was 7 years ago.

If I was in a similar predicament to yourself, I would go for Prague and visit Venice another time, in the 'off season' saving you money and the stench.

    Hi Shera

go with Prague, although the architecture isn't quite like Venice there are still some really spectacular parts around the older parts. it is also cheaper, a really good meal with a decent bottle of wine in a decent restaurant is still really good value c.£20 per head.

The down side of Prague is the huge number of stag parties (guilty myself on this charge) but it's still a cracking place to visit for a relaxing break with loads of great bars and cheep beer and lots to do tourist wise as well.

Corr...unanimous vote for a Prague break then!Hearing it is cheaper by far is a big selling points for me as i've got no money!Just figured I was going to somehow find £300 plus spending money at Glastonbury so no excuse finding a similar amount of cash to go some place else...and I bet beer is cheaper than glasto extortionate piss in a glass too!

Does it have to be Venice or Prague? I think there are some better alternatives for city breaks, such as:

    Barcelona
    Madrid
    Reykjavik
    Berlin
    Stockholm

another vote for Prague. I was there last year with my girlfriend and we both really enjoyed it. So much so that we're going there again in May for a few days. The main factor for me was price, shopping I didn't think was that cheap but eating out and drinking etc was great value. I was surprised that we actually came back with a fair bit of money. There's enough trips and tours you can take if you fancy it as well. We took a day tour out to the the bone church just to get out of the city.

Prague...nice place...people are generally alright apart from the whoppers that try and sell you midget pr0stitutes and drugs at night who frequent the two main squares...I would recommend there...plenty of things to do

Did you get offered any midgets by pimps? When we were there that seemed to be dish of the day over there

went to prague 3 years ago........ lovely city, buildings are amazing but I felt the place was turning into a mini amsterdam

I would honestly recommend Riga in Lativa.

I went 2 years ago and the place is stunning. £4.50 for 200 cigs !!! massive 3 course meals for under £10. Pints about 30p

It had/has only recently opened up so its very cheap.

City is smaller than Prague but if its just for 3 days or so its perfect.

    Attention Re: Prague vs Venice

    Hey

My accountant was transferred to Riga about 10 years ago. He has lived there ever since and when I was last there (9 years ago) it was an unfound jewel.

I still keep in contact with him and apparently things haven't changed much.

If the choice would have been Prague vs Venice vs Riga, I would go for Riga, but if not, Prague would still be my choice as opposed to Venice.

    Ok
    Venice was fantastic.
Very busy in the day but night was lovely. Music playing on the streets and in hotel room at night could just hear it as ambiance. Was very romantic, wifey loved it.
I found it great to just go wandering, walked the whole of Venizia from one side to other and round. Great fun getting lost and finding your way eventually.
Sat in a canal side restaurant in the sunset, very nice.
Wasn't smelly for the most part, only got that on a few streets.
If you don't find churches interesting (as I didn't after the first couple) then there's not a lot to 'do' there, apart from shop, eat and drink.
We ate in a variety of restaurants of different standards. Food was always good but I've had much nicer meals here.
Prices ranged from 30euro each to 80euro each with wine.
