Bloody 360!

Yeap, my 360 has just gone tits up! Its only 5 months old. The strange thing is that it failed today when I connected it via the component leads for the first time ever!

Connected up to HD TV, booted game, 60 seconds into game it crashes! Reboot causes 3 red lights.

I first assumed that hopefully it was something to do with the component lead, but swapping to a VGA lead (that I have used for a while) still showed problems.

Anyway, trying out the towel trick now, but I don't hold out any hope... it seems to suspect that it happened at the exact time as using the component lead for the 1st time ever!

I think its just a case of bad timing with trying the lead mate.

Did you retry after the 3 red lights to boot it, reason i ask is because mine had the 3 red lights but when i rebooted it all was fine and its worked ever since, that was about 6 weeks ago??

i did this with a flashed one and no warrentay sticker, they sent me a nother unit but it had a 79 drive in it.. Wont moan thou cause at least they fixed it. only took 8 days from pick up as well

I got a bad feeling they will all be 79 now - since the manf. is Jan on em.

I got a late february box here, will open it up in a min and see whats inside.

the 79 is flashable, the problem is the chip needs to be desoldered

I now have a dilemma. My MS seal is fairly good after my original hack. Should I risk damaging the seal more my taking apart and re flashing the drive back to normal or should I just say bollox to it and send it back with hacked firmware?

What do you reckon guys?

Send it back as is, i sent mine back no sticker and flashed, still got repaired, as stated in another thread the repairs are subbed out so they dont give a shit. mine came back after 8 days.

What happens if you turn on a 360 and you have a bad flash on the drive?

The reason why I ask is....

Flashed my 360 back to original using my x360usb and the "restore.bat" as per the readme.

The first attempt failed (error on 1 step)... tried it a 2nd time and it completed successfully and verified ok. Great!

Put the drive back in the xbox and power up.... Now I am getting 3 red lights and NO display (black screen). Previously I was getting 3 red lights and a crashing display!

Now it could be a coincidence that my 3 red lights has just got worse... or is it a sign of something wrong with the flash?

send it back anyway Dg, if they dont give a shit when u send back working flashed drives, i doubt the fact its a non working flashed drive will make any difference.

I am thinking the same now. Brought the 360 in November and its only had only a lite use since. Now, when i get an replacement it will probably be one of those desolder jobs... which I wouldn't mind getting done if I had any confidence the thing would last longer than six months!

Anyway, thanx for the help guys. Drive now flashed back, looking very good in the seal department, boxed up and ready for UPS now.

Just to add to this thread.
I have just got mine back (10 minutes ago) it got shipped the thursday before good friday and they tried to deliver it on the friday after and yesterday, very quick turn around considering the bank holiday (they didn't receive it till tuesday).
Manufacture date is 03 2006 not cracked it open yet to see what drives in it yet will do that after work. And it came back with a one month live subscription gift card
For reference mine was still flashed with no warranty sticker and I had tried the heat gun method, due to the towel method getting another day I thought why not have a stab.
All in all quite impressed I was annoyed at it going but at least they fixed it in a reasonable time scale
