Default Best app for recording streamed audio

I did a search for any posts relating to this but couldnt find anything. Does anyone know whats the best app for recording streamed realmedia to mp3. I tried one called claudio which seemed to grab the sound but whern it came to converting it, it always crashes.

    Cheers

I use VLC for this under Ubuntu and it works very well.

There are Windows, Linux and Mac versions available from the above link.

This is how I do it on my Ubuntu PC

    Open VLC

Goto File - Open Network Stream

Enter the stream info then click Stream/Save and then settings

Then enter the relevant info e.g Save path, encode type etc.

Sorry but I don't have access to a Windows box at the moment so cannot confirm if this is the same under Windows.

Cheers tombot and tom999 K++. Took the total recorder route, much easier to use.

Anyone got any idea why everynow and then my recordings make a 3 second hiss/white noise sound?

If you're using linux, streamripper is quite moist. Its command line (for the retro among us) but fucking quality. It will also catch the metadata from the stream and automatically date and name the files for you based on the trackname.

    Jubbly.

i usually lame it and run streamripper from the folder i want to save audio into using:

    streamripper http://stream.com
but if you want to be a bit more sofisticated you can add a crontab to record your favorite streams (like liquidfm 10-12 on sats, if you like trance....smooth). Also there are the obvious command line options to control output directory etc.

I've lost all my scripts when i reformatted and forgot to backup (doh) but there are loads of tutes out there for it.

It's available on the default repo's for ubuntu so just
    sudo apt-get install streamripper
    And jobs a good un.

Oh yea and by the way I also run vlc on linux and win which is quality smooth. I wrote some nice batch files so you could just setup your favourite stream and it auto-dated the files etc. Ill dig it out..
