wiifree 2.44a
So can the chip be upgraded via disc or is it a new install each time?
Also has anyone fitted a switch on one of these yet to enable/disable?
Would it make sense to have the chip wired up in a way so it's outside of the console in a cradle so that each time you need to install one with the latest wiifree you simply pop it out and program rather than open the Wii each time?

there is a disc to switch regions if need be.
for free (or a few quid for the parts) its a pretty great mod actually - works well.
The wiifree does get regular updates, but if you were to fit the current one with no intentions of updating it would still be a very rock solid mod. Fitting a socket to the back is a good option if you dont mind a bit of dirty work. You can also use the wiinjaV2 code on a pic if you wanted, which is a nice mod, just lacking in region free but patching your iso to get round that isnt a big issue. The chip used for the wiifree/wiinja is reflashable too, so you dont have to use a new one everytime you update.
heres my wiifree
I take it the resistors are for the LED's?
I have ordered all the kit now, dont think i'm too fussed with the LED's (what do they do lol) etc... Just going to mount the Holder on the outside with cables coming through one of the vents.
So what about a switch then? I take it it's be easy to work out which cable needs the switch?

The resistors are for the leds but you don't have to fit the leds at all. The chip can quite easily be installed internally with 5 wires and you can quite happily never update it again. I have mine mounted outside as above but that's only cause I test chips I do free for peeps. An on/off switch can easily be added by breaking the ground wire to the chip. I've done that myself and works fine.
If you don't care about the extra features that wiifree has and is getting then the wiinja v2 code is solid enough that you wouldnt ever have to update the chip.
If you go for the wiifree then make sure you get the latest "stable" version as it's pretty much updated on a daily basis
yeah the resistors are for the leds, to be honest i only added them because i could, i have no use for them as theyre used for the technical side of the wiifree code and i have no ideas on that.
to answer you on the switch thing, there is no point at all, atleast not at the moment so dont worry about it. If you were to pull the chip out its socket it would operate as stock anyway. I thought about adding a switch myself for the same reasons as i added the LEDs and i was just going to put a break in the +v line but i couldnt be bothered in the end.
As per PM, i'm going to stick it all in a little white box with a switch on I think and maybe use your plug in idea...
