almost anything you do yourself will probably look absolute crap and will put you at odds with the l'lord meaning he'll help himself to a nice chunk of your deposit - is it worth it for 6 months?
I had an old steel one recoated years ago, some bloke came with a spray gun, some masking paper and some special enamel.
80 sobs later and bath was good as new.

Hi m8, it was fine after a day or two, pretty clean job tbh.
I haven't a clue regarding how long it lasts though, the suite was changed about 6 months later, right bastard it was getting that bath out, we ended up smashing it to pieces with sledgehammers.

If you re-enamel a bath you can expect it to be good for about 6 mths before it starts chipping etc, especially if you have kids.
if you want to sell and get a good finish quick and cheap then go for it.
If you are staying in the house than I woul always recomend ripping it out and putting new in. Takes a bit longer but will last for years rather than months
