    Default new mountain bike

My GF's dad is after a new mountain bike (prob £300-400) - any advice or good sites to look at?
I've had a look about and the best i've seen is probably a Kona fire mountain. Seems to have the best front forks (rock shox), and my bro's old kona was pretty decent, depsite him bending the frame!
it's been a while since i have even ridden a bike so don't know which makes are decent anymore.
concerning frame sizes - the kona's design means that the frame size would naturally be less than other makes as the top bar is angled down. Does the frame size take this into account in anyway?

    cheers

I bought a bike last week, havent owned one in 10 years. I didnt do any research at all and I know nothing about bikes, so Just bought the first one I seen in JJB sports. £130. Been out on it a few times, pretty good while we've got the weather and a nice change from jogging.

What kind of security do you cyclists use? several years ago my bike was nicked, D-lock and all from outside a supermarket and I still haven't replaced it.

I use a specialized hardlock and it is like a metallic snake. Superb bit of kit but I live in the wilds and only lock it up if in town. My shed is like a fortress.

Specialised Rockhopper here, for that price range mate, a nice Trek or GT would suffice
