Yes, well no, it would involve you eating a huge amount of eggs.
I know the foam stuff is bloody expensive mate. But where to get it.... Companies that deal with recording studio's?
Egg cartons are a cheap way of doing it... but not the most effective!
Egg boxes are a myth. They do nothing for sound proofing, it was an acoustic improvement thing.
Have a read of this...

It's never cheap, www.studiospares.com
Another way to reduce sound leakeage and deaden the sound in the room is to stick carpet to the walls and ceiling, it depends on how much you need to reduce it. The only way to truly soundproof is to build a room within a room, floor an' all!
what do you want done?
What size is the room?
Floor, ceiling and windows to be included?

Big is not always better.... Take Fat people for example.
Push down Taps, you know it makes sense. Wash Them.
I carpeted the whole room in my studio. Seems to do the trick.

I used bubble wrap in my dungeon. Seemed to do the trick as the neighbours never even realise what goes on in there and I like the noise when I bounce somebody off the walls as well.
Musical Echos and the Home Environment:
Egg cartons, made from mashed paper (not exposed to any damp, and not made from expanded plastic), seriously defeat sound bounce, sometimes referred to as echo, by absorbing some of the original air movement ..
Moving air, in (and well past), the audible range, is absorbed into each layer, and 'some' is distributed to the other side of each individuale layer, which is further reduced on the second, and each successive, reflection ..
It shouldn't be suggested as a total soundproofing system, or even any kind of sound proofing (although it does exhibit this effect), but a device to reduce sound reflections in the room, otherwise referred to as ehco damping .. !!
Obviously, by it's damping effects, it will reduce the passage of audio waves, and a 'layer of three' will be quite effective, but it's primary advantage is it's cost effective index .. !!
'Cheap' it certainly is, and, with several layers, it is effective too, especially at frequecies well beyond those in the 'articles' quoted above ..
Summary:
If you can afford, and want, perfection, then go the studio way, otherwise, accept a 'virtually free', more than acceptable, solution to the problem of bounce/echo ..
Scientifically, it isn't perfect, and neither is the 'official' foam, nor sheep's wool (used on microphones), but it is effective ..
Procode ..
Nice one people ill have a look through the sites posted.
i work in the trade, so let me know the size you want and i'll get you some at cost.
