Default Rome between 25th July and 29th July advice

    Hi Guys,

me and the missus are wanting to go to Rome for our first wedding anniversary. We are looking for somewhere which is near the city centre and is a bit swanky. Anyone got any suggestions. Im looking to book the flights through ryan air. We are not wanting to spend a fortune but we want to stay somewhere nice

holiday inn have a few hotels in and around Rome, most have free shuttle bus service, if you chose to stay on the outer city walls. Easyjet also fly to Rome.

Dammit, we stayed in a nice hotel on the 'Piazza del Popolo', but cannot for the life of me remember the name of it - despite trawling the intertubes for the past 20 minutes and calling the missus... who isn't answering her mobile

It's a nice area, close to the tings like the Spanish Steps, Trevi Fountain, subway etc

ONE thing you MUST do is visit the ice cream place - San Crispino. The best ice creamery in Rome. It was mentioned in The Guardian and then in Time Out...we found it and went every night.

Its just off the Trevi Fountain and closed Tuesdays - best thing to do is get to the fountain and get your serach on - you won't regret it!

After getting back home we found lots of nice self-catering apartments that were close to (and cheaper) than the hotel we stayed in - just something to think about

We went to the Barberini Palace which has the most amazing 3D fresco on the ceiling. It's that good that you cannot work out if the marble carvings are real or painted.

We didn't stay at Hotel Eden but went for dinner on their top floor restaurant one night, as it was recommended to us. The restaurant and bar has windows all the way round with a panoramic view of the city. It's quite trumpy in there but the service, food and view was well worth it.

I have stayed here a couple of times, it is not five star but it is very central and quite cheap but the rooms are really nice and clean, in July you should really get a night for free.

couple of tips, Rome is amazing but in July it is bloody hot!

if you go to the Vatican go really early.

    have fun.
If you had to walk a thousand miles, who's shoes would you wear?
