    Lethargic.

For the past few years I have got into a habit of being in bed by 10/10.30pm latest. I get up at 6am normally unless I am in a training regime, where I get up at 4.50am. If I don't between 7 and 8 hours sleep I really feel the effects the next day, almost like a mini hangover.

I'm not surprised by this, you are always one of the first on DF in the mornings.

I usually get around 7 hours sleep. Sometimes if I get too much sleep it really knackers me.

Seven hours is average for me sometimes around five although I too feel rough like a hangover if I don't get enough.

I'd love to sleep in at the weekends for 12 hours like people do but as soon as it's light im awake.

If I know I have to get up, it's a struggle to wake up and I could sleep for England. However if I know I can lie in, I am always wide awake by about 6.30am.

What's that all about? ?? Does anyoe else get that happening?

I can never sleep past 6.30 my bodys programmed now to get up at that time regardless of time i go to bed, i find exercise and healthy diet aids good sleep.
The only time my sleep pattern was shot to shit was when i was younger and worked nightshift for 7 years, used to sleep anywhere, at the pictures, never seen the end of a film.
used to wake up at the bus depot a lot, even if i took the car i used to stop at the sideroads /sliproads and sleep away for hours, thank fook all thats behind me now and i can sleep normally.

During the week, I get to bed around 12.00 / 12.30 and I am up at around 6.30 / 7.00 depending on if I have meetings. I am normally ok with this amount of sleep, but feel a bit tired when I have sat down after getting back from work.
Up until recently, I would lie in Saturday/Sunday until 12.00pm as I just could not get up. But this buggered up my sleeping pattern on a Sunday night. So for the last 6 weeks, I have been allowing myself only 8 hours max at weekends, and I have noticed I now get up naturally after about 8 hours at weekends. Also, i get time to do so much more.

Working shifts my sleep pattern is all over the place. It can vary between 3 - 11 hours. at the moment I am struggling to get 4 hours max. The main reason athe moment is that I'm having a few personel problems, work, ex g/f and other stuff on my mind and they rear thier head when I try to get sleep... it's affecting my moods and eating habbits. 2 months ago I had 2 hours sleep in 61 hours. Paranoia set in and life was like being on a trip.. was a nightmare.. seriously, won't go into detail but it was very very worrying and at the time. I couldn't see it was lack of sleep. Tried all sorts to get me to sleep but to no avail.

Things are a little better at the moment but still hardwork.

Yep I get exactly that, I have to be up for work at around 7AM but allways keeping hitting snooze till the last possible minute.

Weekends I'm wide awake at half 7 without fail.

In bed between 12 and 1am, up by 5am. If you get your body into a routine you get used to it. Saturdays and Sundays I get up around 7, no matter what time I go to bed. Life is too short to waste time sleeping.

6 hours is more than enough for me unless I have a long stint with very little sleep. Sometimes I wonder if I even need 6 as lots of times I go with around 4 hours a night and feel refreshed in the morning and able to function properly for the whole day. The exception to this is generally when I get so pissed that I end up with 8 hours.

I think it can be very finely balanced though as sometimes if I get what most people would call a good nights sleep then I feel absolutely rank the next day and my concentration is all over the place.

Apparently there is medical evidence that shows that the amount you sleep is related to your intelligence. It goes that more intelligent people need less sleep and less intelligent people need more sleep.

All depends on what shift i'm on but usually 5 1/2 hours tops unless i've been out on the ale at the weekend then i'll either wake up as soon as it goes light feeling great for a couple of hours until a hangover kicks in or i'll force myself to sleep through it.
