I don't know if anybody else has had this problem or knows a way round it other than a format of the machine but I have a friends computer that when you insert a USB device such as a pen drive or digital camera etc, it cannot install the hardware automatically.
I have a couple of different Kingston DataTraveller USB flash drives that install automatically without any additional on every other machine using either Win 2000, ME, XP or Vista but not this one.
The computer is running Windows XP Professional with Service pack 2. The Plug and Play feature correctly identifies the name and type of the Hardware. It then gives you the option to search for drivers using Windows Updates or not then goes away and comes up with the message ' Cannot Install Hardware'.
I have looked on the manufacturers websites and found that they only supply Windows 98drivers and says that XP doesnt need a driver.
Is there any Registry of gpedit tweek that need to be made to fix this problem??
Can anybody help me with this one???
Many Thanks
