Thompson DTI6300-16 USB Port

i have a Thompson DTI6300-16 Topup TV box it has a USB socket on the front i have been trying to connect it to my PC with a 5 to 5 USB cable but my computer is not finding the conection, do i need a special type of USB cable to do this or could i make my own. I want to be able to transfer the programs i have recorded on it to my PC.
