Some people we know - who live in Swanley, Kent, have chickens. They live on a council estate in what could only be described as 'pikey-ville'.
The local council have never got involved, but they dont tend to in that area as most of the people are of the good, honest, reliable gypsy type!
It seems to be a trend round that area, some even have cockreils and the noise they make is hilarious!
Once one of the buggers starts, they all go off on one

My uncle used to have a lot of chickens too - he even had a couple of goats!
He lived in Eltham at the time, and he had a massive garden with room for a large chicken coop at the end of it - dunno if it p*ssed off the neighbours - I was too young to remember.
The eggs were always really nice & we used to love the boiled eggs & soldiers my aunt would make us when we were kids.
Since then, eggs have never tasted quite the same..

I would love to have the room for some chickens because you gotta feel sorry for all those poor battery hens & the awful conditions they have to endure...

I knew someone who had chickens, he lived on his own. When he got bored he would highly polish the kitchen floor, let the chickens in and piss himself laughing as they tried to keep their balance.

They dont actually need all that much space. Apparently you can keep them in the cage as in the pics i posted above and they will be quite happy. We let ours out as we do have some more space.

Obviously I am not saying the battery farms are ok.

lol, my house/garden is like a fookin petting zoo - I dare'nt get any more animals
For some odd reason we always seem to end up with other peoples unwanted pets..
I dont mind really, we've got a big enough chest freezer (lolol)
My missus read this thread & she's now got it in her head that we need chickens

At least she's stopped going on about the giraffe....

    Have you tried turkey eggs?
Not tried them myself, but often wondered how they'd taste...

Kept various breeds of chicken for years until recently but plan to get em again.
That coop looks fine. Similar to one I have had in the past. Enjoy the best eggs you will ever have.
I remember feeding em a load of left over broccoli and other greens once to discover green yolks is an actual thing :-)

Make sure you have a high fence as they WILL escape frequently if you don't and it will get boring really quick.

I also kept pigs hence the username.

I little tip if you plan on growing veg.. I made a sort of basic temp pen to keep em housed in that was easily movable. I would move it over where I wanted to grow the veg.
In a couple of days the patch would be completely cleared and all slugs removed. They might as well work for their supper ...

    Thanks to piggzy

Hi pal, i've already fenced off the section of my garden that has all my veg and flowers in it, so the chickens will have the run of the rest of my garden, which is usually full of slugs and snails.

The fencing is quite high on all sides so hopefully they wont get out, i was advised not to lay any turf and just use bark for the ground.

I love the eggs i get from home chickens at my house in Italy, they taste amazing, hope these are the same.

    Thanks to ilscuro

Yup turf/grass wont last more than a few days (unless they have a field to play with)

I used to love watching em. Strange creatures. One of the brave ones would jump on the back of the rare breed pigs we had and get a free ride round the enclosure. Was hilarious... after a while the pigs just let em get on with it.

I spent five years living next to cunts with a few chickens. Made my life outdoors a fucking misery with their clucking and squawking. Burnt down their run and chicken house and it cost me about a grand to replace it all but was a lot quieter when they only had two left... Everyone who owns them doesn't notice the smell, the appearance of mice, the noise at 4am when the sun comes up and everyting else that is fucked up about keeping them in built up areas. Don't be a cunt and get something that should live ona farm is my advice. An egg a day off each if you are lucky ain't really worth the hatred from your neighbours.

    Thanks to BertRoot

Hahaha, to be fair they did get a cockerel. That cunt was at it half an hour before I could see sign of the fucking sun. Tried telling me it had hatched from one of their eggs. I assumed this to be true as the neighbour did have a thing for the chickens and there was no sign of a cockerel to fertilise any eggs... Numb cunts wouldnt listen so council stepped in and told them to get rid. They also lost me a house sale.

    Thanks to BertRoot

I used to have them, I even hammered 15mm cooper pipe into the ground around the perimeter to stop foxes from burrowing under the run. But in the the end the foxes won and kill them all. So I stopped keeping them.
TAR seems to be a decent bloke!
