Nintendo announces Mario Kart Wii

Nintendo has announced Mario Kart Wii, the next generation debut for the Mario Kart franchise.

Mario Kart Wii will come with a steering wheel-shaped controller that wraps around the Wii-mote.

For the first time ever, gamers will be able to play Mario Kart online via Nintendo's online interface similar to that of Mario Strikers Charged. No friend codes required.

Some of the announced game modes include Battle and Racing, both of which can be played online.

Nintnedo announced that the game will be unveiled in Q1 of 2008

there was a rumour that the UK will get MK this year instead of Smash Bros, could still be true as they wuld probably only state the date for the US at E3

OMG, yes yes.. it almost looks too good....

I was dispointed with the battle on the Cube and have always prefered the N64 battle and even one track on the snes (Ice).

I hope the battle function bring back that added dimension i missed (if no one else) on MK.

Yet another game i will be wanting on day of release!

I better start saving!

Totally agree, the cube battle was shite, the n64 version was great in battle mode and required a lot of skill.

Glad they ditched that crap double dash rubbish, one character per kart please!

yup ill purchase it too, along with galaxy, i have a staple line up of classics on my shelf consisting of mario kart on the snes, mario64 and many others, if htis meets the grade it will join them.

Just out of curiosity, did the Namco arcade game ever get ported anywhere or is it available for emulation for MAME? I'm just curious, because if it has been ported or is 'emulateable', surely Nintendo could put it on the VC to tide us over til this Wii version arrives.

Mario Kart, Mario & Luigi RPG (DS), Paper mario, Mario Strikers all came out in america/uk before Japan and they were out in all regions within a month or 2, ive just checked wikipedia and MKDD was out in all regions within 2 weeks too, so dont lose heart yet!
The days of 12 month waits for games are over in most cases. Thankfully.
