    Info Average speed cameras

im more curious than anything, and quit sure of the answer...

but the average speed check camera's that are dotted around, do they take a record at the first camera, then one at the second and work out the average..... or is it an average across the distance travelled?

im pretty sure it's over the whole distance, but does anyone know for sure?

what would be the point in recording your speed at one end then again at the other, but not in the middle... thats just 2 seperate speeds.. not an average.

    thats what normal cams do.

the specs cams identify your reg plate at one end then again at the other, they know the distance, so they can work out yer average speed between the points by using the time between reg plate captures.

supposedly you can get round them by switching lanes between first and second capture... i wouldnt try to find out though.

Sorry, unless you have photographic evidence I simply don't believe that it is possible fly past anything on that stretch of two lane car park.

    LoL

If you're over the speed limit past the 1st 1one just slow down or pull over etc... before you reach the 2nd one.

The camera takes the picture at the start, and the end. It used the ANPR system, Which means it will source your reg from the picture, match up to the first image taken, and the time between to the two captures, if your time between the two works out more than the speed limit. You'll get a ticket.

    Changing lanes does nothing, fact.

    I work installing them .....

from what I read, their type approval states they can only be used for vehicles that remain in one lane (think about it- if you keep swithcing lanes, the speed recorded will be wrong), anyway, any device the c**ts use is only valid when type approved, and they aren't if we we switch lanes so f*** the law.

Well thats a different story to what was on the news, being confirmed by the cops and the guys who make them a while ago - fact.

They said they COULD work on all lanes but only work on one.

They CAN be used on all lanes but are approved for use only on one lane at a time.

Best thing to do is use cruise control while you drive along the money making stretch of road.
No sympathy for the devil; keep that in mind. Buy the ticket, take the ride...

Ah, where would I be without it. That and the speed limiter, bliss. The best thing since sliced bread when driving along the M1 through the roadworks.

Just out of curiosity, does anyone know what the tolerance is on these? Like the Gatso's I think they're 10%. Just wondered if these where the same?

Technically there need not be any tolerance. It can be set at whatever they want however the GUIDELINES say 10%+2 however this is only a guideline and so you can be done for 31mph (technicaally 30.01) as speeding is an absolute offence.

Actually, thats not really true. Its exactly technical issues why there are tolerances. Not only are car speedo's not that accurate, but the devices that are used to catch you are not 100% either. I doubt that there is any speed trap method in use that could successfully prove that you were doing 31 in 30 area.

What I was saying is that the tolerences are there in the guidelines only. There is nowhere in LAW that says you need to give a tolerance. Obviously they are given as it would be completely beyond reason to ticket someone for 31 etc, however theoretically it would be possible to.

this is true, no device is exactly 100% acurate, but there was the unwritten rule wich was 10% +2 , just wondered if these were the same.

btw, anyone with non-standard alloy's i.e. bigger/smaller than the manufacturers spec, will not have an accurate reading due to the radias of the wheel. That also goes for low profile tyres. Just to warn anyone with 27" rims.

These speed cameras are all wank. All they do is teach people to jam on their brakes and slow down for 0.1% of their journey, before speeding up again. Better driver education is required for better road safety.

I wouldn't be so against them if they weren't put in places where they are clearly placed to be as hidden as possible, thus making as much money as possible. Plus mobile ones where the coppers hide as much as possible. If they were always CLEARLY visible then drivers would at least see them from a distance and not have to slam on at the last min!
Specs do seem to work slowing evreyone down although they generally are only placed on motorway roadworks (and on tower bridge I believe??!).

We have nothing like this in the north east...we just have speed cameras; slow down speed up...all clearly marked.

When you go through those average speed things down south everyone seems to drive like a drome.

If that kinda shit moves north, we must all group and fight the southern c~~ts.
