Yeah... The red cross happens when it can't read the software on the Sd card.

Either the SD card isn't inserted (or not inserted properly)

Or the application on the SD card is knackered/files missing

    oh yeah (just checking)

It means that it can't read the software on the HD for some reason then.

At the back of the tom tom there should be a reset button (which you have to press with something small and pokey like a paper clip). hopefully this should get the Tom tom in a state where you can reinstall the firmware (download from the tom tom site).

If that doesn't work you may have a shafted HD?

the reset has been tried, still does the same..... Ive been told if you have the usb connection to PC it sometimes powers up, but intermittantly...

Guess ill have to wait till its in my hands later in the week to sort this one out

Has he tried changing the contents of the hd at all?

If possible, I would rip the contents of another identical tomtom, wipe your one's hd, then copy the known good s/w back onto it.

    Here's the basic files from a Go500 - which will work on a Go700 - software version 6.150

    Code:
    http://www.megaupload.com/?d=D4TWNSW1
Extract from Zip file - open folder named 'tomtom base files', then open folder named 'tomtom' & then copy everything onto the Go700
