    Default New speed cameras

Hi all, I drive through the A41 every day to go to work and have recently noticed new cameras on the roadside. They have been placed just before old style Gatsos on both sides of the road. I was wondering, are they speed camera and if so shouldnt they be painted orange? These type of cameras seem to be popping up everywhere

No, don't think it is a speed camera,

    Going off here :

    http://www.speedcamerasuk.com/speed-camera-types.htm

Could be a Specs type which are not correctly coloured ?

Or they could be observtion cameras like these you see :

Could even be a variation of this camera :

This is a gantry in the variable speed limit section of the M42 between the M40 and M6. There is a camera mounted above each lane and they work in the same way as a regular Gatso. Only twelve gantries are fitted with cameras as the rest just have dummy road markings. As the cameras are hidden behind the speed limit displays its easier the look at the section of gantry over the opposite side of the road as the gantries fitted with cameras have them in both directions.

Maybe they are not speed cameras. They could possibly be something like Trafficmaster. Couldn't find anything online about a new type of speed camera in use.

Cheers for that, funny though how they are placed before the Gatso, I thought they where there so they could take a pic from the front of your car to get your face aswell, me just being paranoid

I've seen a couple of them recently, also above/next to gatsos. Funny thing is these gatsos don't have the stripes on the floor to prove you speed. Also when I've seen those new overhead cams, both times there have been 1 more cameras than lanes.

Also another sneaky one I saw on the way down to brighton a month or saw ago, they had the first specs camera, but no second one. If I didn't know about the switching lanes thing, we would have had to do 70 all the damn way.

    They`ve had them on the A406 (N`Circular) & A40 for a while.

I wondered if they were part of the Centrally linked Police system to follow vehicles around, one set on the A40 has 5 cameras, but theres only 4 lanes?

Set them on fire and watch for who comes out to repair them. Might give some clues

a group of fellas went round my area one night and hit a shit load of cameras.

Burnt em out, dismantled em or attacked the pole they were on.

Its quite nice cos you can drive around with no cameras atm

From article: Drivers can avoid speeding tickets...by changing lanes

"A massive flaw in a new generation of speed cameras means motorists can avoid fines and points on their licence simply by changing lanes.
The Home Office admitted last night that drivers can avoid being caught the by hi-tech 'SPECS' cameras which calculate a car's average speed over a long distance."
