    Yeah as Pizza says PC World, I got the 320gb version of it from them a few months back and it's spot on.

    I normally get mine from S V P (all one word can't post it any other way) I've got a hand full of Freecom 3.5inc and 2.5inc externall hard drives.
    This better not be a wind up
    And stop sending the Links It nothing I don’t already know;
    And as you know it pisses me off as all this started with Goldilocks and God

    Rant Re: External Hard Drive

    I wouldn't bover with that peice of shit. I purchased on Sunday so I could back up for a format I needed to do. Put my entire music and film collection on it + digital pictures from Jan 2006 to present ( aIlways back these up to DVD lesson learnt ) and my Mrs business files. Installed fine coppied files to it fine. Unplug from machine and rebuild it re plug in afterwards windows finds new hardware oh yes its a disc drive fan fucking tastic, goes into my computer and no drive looks under device manager and there it is, looks in disk manager and again not present. speak to maxtor youll need to send it back for a replacement because it is fooked.Rant over dont buy one there shit. Running power data recovery on the formatted rebuilt system as I type this more reliable to play russian rulete with data recovery than buy a maxtor external.

    Did you open the case (of the external drive) and try it plugged in directly to your motherboard?

    Not yet thats a last resort, to get it open will wreck the case as it looks glued and I doubt Ill get me money back from PC world then. The data recovery seems to be working fingers crossed as I only had windows and Autocad installed most of the data is still there. The Maxtor also wouldnt let me format it with Macdrive so it wouldnt work on the 360 which is what I was gonna use it for after the rebuild.

    Good luck pal. That's harsh when something like that happens. Have to say my 320gb I got is still running sweet as a nut (touch wood).

    Seagate seems to be the only ones confident enough in their disks to give them a 5 year warranty (apart from the overpriced WD Raptors).

    PC world have told me to crack this thing open to get the drive out to try and retrieve my data before I take it back which I think was reasonable. Inside it what drive do you think it has low and behold a 500 GB IDE Seagate Baracuda. Seagate have just taken over Maxtor, you would be hard pushed to buy one of those drives of the net and have it delivered for the price PC World has the external up for. Yet to try and see if my Data is ok but wil keep you posted.

    er.. seagate bought maxtor in 05.

    When Seagate bought Maxtor in 2005, it kept hardly any of that company’s technology or employees.

    The $1.9 billion deal was simply about removing a competitor. Seagate was No. 1 in the market; then Western Digital followed by Maxtor. While it kept the Maxtor brand, Seagate makes all its drives in what had been Seagate facilities using Seagate’s technology. The company figures it lost half of Maxtor’s market share. But the other half, plus the benefits of reduced competition, make the deal worth while, Mr. Pope said. It was even bettor for Western Digital which won much of Maxtor’s business and is enjoying the higher industry prices without having had to pay nearly $2 billion for the privilege.

    “Western Digital got a real freebie out of this deal,” Mr. Pope said.

    These are EXCELLENT!! Small stylish, made by one of the best hard drive manufacturers around (I've NEVER, EVER had a Western Digital drive fail, but I've had a few others fail (MAXTOR is the worst IMO)), but it is a bit more expensive than the one from PC World (£107), and has less storage (250GB)!
