can get some, dont worry too much about the live sand and rock, as you mature your setup the sand will fill with bacteria and become 'live', same withthe rock, just blend in a few kilo's (about 5-10) of imported live rock and put in as much tofa rock as you want, the imported stuff will seed the tofa.
what kind of filtration do you plan to use? kind of fish? fish only or reef setup?
get plenty of books, and have a read of marine world magazine to get some ideas.
i've just installed a home made sump with an overflow box that i bought from the states and made a nitrate reductor, gonna use this with a graduated deep sand bed.
got links to some good, cheap sites for equipment as well, will post them later when i get home.
I keep Tropical Fish
Heres some pics, Their a bit shit as their hard to get cos they move so bloody quick!!
Spoiler:
In A World Of United's, City's, Town's, Rover's & Albion's There Is Only One Hotspur
Had tropical for a while when I was in the UK an dlooked at Marine for some time.
The only reason I didn't go marine was that all of the impored live rock can't be synthetically produced, so basically it is smashed off the side of a coral reaf.
Also, the fish are extremly hard to breed in captivity, so most are caught from the ocean and chucked into tanks.
There are only 10 types of people in the world: Those who understand binary and those who don't
jacko i got sumit fishy in me pants for ya u big bubba nailer
been keepin reef tanks for over 20 yrs, currently have a 240gal tank
try www.ultimatereef.com for all your marine fishy info.....v good forum
or ask your questions here m8, i'll do my best to help ya
live rock can be easily bought online....try www.acropora-house.co.uk for the best and cheapest around
aragonite sand is the best type to get as it helps keep up the ph level of the water. Don't bother getting "live sand" as it's more expensive, just get the normal stuff and then get a cup full of sand out of the tanks of your local lfs and it'll soon be brimming with all the nasties and bugs you need to be in it.
sounds good, been watching over UltimateReef now for a few weeks and loads of interesting topics and piccies,
you got pics of your setups dood??

I used to have quite a few trop tank and bread loads of fish finally breading discus but haven't had a tank for years apart from the nominal goldfish my son had until a few month ago
i had a 6x2x2 & 4x2x18 sump up till last year,
i had a full aquatronica setup with deltec ap851 skimmer, tunze pumps, 4x 400w halides, 4x 250w heaters, moonlights, 100kg live rock, RO filters, kalkwasser drips, water chiller etc,etc
we had to give it up as the electricity bill alone was astronomical
it was a hobby full of highs and lows - it looked stunning but in the 10 years i kept marines i had 2 full tank crashes - one was caused by a tunze pump sucking up an anenome which then poisoned the water and everything died, the other one was caused by the macroalgae in the sump going sexual and poisoning the water
just one fish i lost in the second crash cost me £150 - i dread to think how much money marine fishkeeping cost me over the years
