I think its about time that I got my Xbox 360 drive flashed

Ive been downloading a few Xbox 360 ISO's and I think its about time I took the plunge.

My PC is a Dell E520, though dont know if it would work. Though my other PC has a VIA® VT8237 Chipset, which Im sure is compatible.

I know I have a Toshiba Samsung Drive, though not too sure of the model number.

I dont play games on XBL and I only use it to download the odd demo etc.

What do you think.

Best advice I can give you mate its to READ, READ, READ, and READ AGAIN before actually trying to flash!

As long as you have a floppy drive and a compatible chipset, you'll be fine! I'm not sure yours is compatable, but you can always try it, and if its not, just go and buy a PCI SATA card with a VIA 6421 chipset!

i did my old one off a bootable cd in the end and bought a 6421 card off ebay for under a tenner all in

Jesus I have had a look through the guides, having to extract your original firmware, then insert in into the modified firmware using hex editors, man I think I'll leave it as I will probably end up bricking my console.

Its much simpler that that mate!

If you have an MS28 the only tricky thing is the timing.

No hex editors need be involved!

you've been loking at older guides mate! No hex editing needed now! Just extract your old FW, run a command prompt program (comes included in the iXtreme FW hack) that creates your hacked FW patched with your key (ix12.bin) and then flash that to your console....done!

My first machine died with the 3rod issue you might have heard about?

Flashed it, modded the case and fans etc, even replaced the DVD laser (fooked that last one up good and proper).

As I couldn't return it I bought an Elite and vowed not to fiddle with it

I've now bought two cut price originals (Forza 2 a COD3) and I'm already fedup paying for games!

I managed to 'sort' my 49d Hitachi before but can I do it again? I get the impression that newer machines are harder but guys on here manage quite happily.

iExtreme prevents banning for now and as the machines should't ring of death anymore I don't see why you/I/we shouldn't?

@ Chubbs, seeing as you now have an elite, it will either have a Hitachi 0079fk, Hitachi 0079fl, or BenQ drive in it! The Hitachi 0079's can only be done by either fitting a passkey that is soldered on (maximus one is the best AFAIK) so that you can flash it using the same method as a Hitachi 0078fk (see this link), or by removing the TSOP from the motherboard and flashing in an external programmer (like you used to have to do with the Hitachi 0078fk's!).

And if it has a BenQ drive, then they have figured out how to read and write to the drive by cutting the tracks on the PCB, and fitting a switch, then re-joining the tracks, but there's no hack (yet), so there's nothing you can do for now!

The philips drive in the pic are the BenQ ones! They just re-brand them as BenQ and put them into consumer machines!

I got a BenQ back, but would have flashed straight away if they had sent a flashable machine.
