Can anyone me an idiots guide to what these are ?

I`ve looked on wikipedia and its ment to be compressed music files but each track seems to be 30mb or so. Albums comming in at 600-700 mb

it's pretty much uncompressed music but I think the technical term is variable compression where it only takes out data that would have minimal effect, unlike mp3 which some will say massicres music.

google a flac plugin to listen
google a flac mp3 converter to change
    I'm new to this

Look up on google Nero .flac plug in, you will find a amature looking page of all osrts of musci plug ins.

Or grab Foobar, it plays flac files and there are options to create an audio CD thorugh the player. Also sometimes you can get ,flac with encoding, so one file but when burnt it is seperate files, sometimes these can come with .cue sheets.

Just to add, VLC media player & winamp (probably needs a plugin) can also play flac files. The Foobar app looks very useful.

Baron, as you nopw already knwo it is due to the fiel tyep as said above on size, i love .flac, i always porefer to get this or .ape files, always preferably encoded within.

I have never had a size problem with 80mins though? Got a few mix ones that were liek this, never used overburn or needed a bigger disc.

Foobar is great, it is simple yet useful, like VLC will play anythign thrown at it but audio, i have not looked into VLC for those files types.

I guess I`ve known nothing other than mp3 when d/l so I thought your average album was 50-100mb.
