Does anyone know if this can be done?
Mates daughter is starting a graphics course at collage and has been told they are using apple mac. Has he has a windows pc he doesnt really want to have to go out and buy a apple mac and was wondering if this can be done.

I found a emulator called Gemulator from http://www.emulators.com/ but i dont seem to be able to grasp if it would be what im looking for.

    Any advice?

I've never heard of anything like that but it shouldn't matter if its a mac or a PC as long as the software that he uses is available to download for Windows etc. You can get Photoshop etc for Windows and most other design apps.

There is a way of running a hacked osx for x86 processors on a normal machine, theres a guide to it on wikipedia. Depending on your pc specs it might run great or just run shite

Alas if it was only as simple as Sanj suggests...

The whole story is that recently apple changed their mac hardware to Intel Core Duo's and so the OSX operating system had to be altered to run on PC type hardware. However, Apple only obviously changed OSX to run on a select type of hardware.
Now some bright sparks have hacked OSX to install and run on a PC environment. However, its obviously very hit or miss if it will run on your hardware.

The hacked OSX disc can be downloaded from Alt.binaries.mac and is called UPHUCK (1.4 is current version)

Once you have burnt the disc, I recommend you grab a spare Hard drive (it only needs to be about 10 gig) and have a go at installing it on that (you can dual boot windows / osx... but it is so hit and miss if it will work on your PC that I recommend you try it on a spare HD first to see if it works).

I tried it on 2 of my PC's. The newer one crashed fairly early on in the install process. The much older one installed fine, went all the way through the 1st real boot up and then just crashed as the desktop started (a real Arrrrrhhh!!! moment)

You could of course by a PC mobo, graphics card etc that is very compatible with OSX, but if you are going to do that you might just as well buy a Mac.

    So your options...

    1) Try uphuck on your current PC

    2) Buy new PC hardware that is more compatible with OSX and try uphuck again

    3) Depending on budget and what needs to be done on OSX you can get those old Imac's (built into a CRT screen) for about £50 on ebay. They will run OSX but they are not the fastest thing to have.

    4) If you have more money to spend... a mini Imac is only £400. That is bang up to date with speed and you can plug in your PC monitor, keyboard and mouse etc.

It will be the software that's being used which you really need to find out, as there might (and probably is) a Windows version.

If it's graphic design I would imagine that it will be Photoshop work?

Bugger pissing about with a MAC if you have a Windows machine, install what she needs on that and you should be ok.
