Introductions.

Had a little browse through some of the new members introductions over the last few weeks, and I've had an idea.

Am I one of the only ones who think that some intros are a little week.

Come on, how hard is it to say a little more about yourself, your interests etc'?

I think we should not only make intros mandatory, but have a template/form that n00bies can copy and paste and make relevant to themselves.

Just a few things like: Name, where from, how you get here, what you after, your interests etc.

It would make the first post a lot more useful to everyone if they all did this...

Mods may want to move this to the whine cellar if more suited there...

I guess a fair majority just wanna leech something then piss off, or have problems with a DBOX so maybe can't be arsed with writing a nice intro. I know what your saying though, the TomTom 910 is a great example.

I like the idea. Every so often we get a cracking intro but the majority are very poor.

They make very boring reading a lot of the time to be honest. Pisses me off and I do make an effort to reply if someone has made an effort.

Hmmm search my posts only holds the latest 500. I was trying to find my first ever post. I remember some banter from the off.

To be fair I think people need to see what WE are like. Most signup to seek a fix to something and therefore DF is a tool. If we make the effort then the ones that are likely to stick around will do just that cus they will see a place where they will fit in. Then they will open up.

I like the simple form idea. I'm just adding some balance to the request

Intros have never been mandatory, although as you know we do try and encourage people to post one. Not gonna change the rules to make it compulsory for noobs to post an intro.

We can hoewever carry on pointing out to new members that haven't posted in the intro section it would be nice if they did. But don't give 'em a load of shit unless of course they're being a right twonk.

When i first joined i never really done an intro as i was a bit overawed by the rest of the posters on the board, Seems funny for me to say that as now i dont really come across as the retiring/shy type, but a forum can be seem a bit overpowering at first.

Agreed, I always try and ask questions which may provoke them into convo but I think about 99% never check back. Any chance they could be automatically subscribed to their intro post?
