Question Advice needed on buying a car up to £5k

Right.. I am totally ignorant when it comes to cars, I genuinely have no idea whats good and whats a pile of crap.

Im looking to get rid of my wee Punto and get something a bit bigger now I have a wee bairn. I dont want to get anything too big, and would be happy with something with an engine of 1.4 or less..

Had a look at the Ford Focus, might be a good option - is there anything else thats of a similar size that I could get something less than 4 years old with for £5k?

I sold an 02 plate 5 dr yaris 1.3 for £4750 something like 6-12 months ago, wasn't amazing for luxuries, but a nice very practical and reliable car that we bought and sold easily.

Bit smaller than the focus, so don't know if it will meet your demands though, was just thinking it seems to fit the rest of your requirements.....

I'd look at Jap cars if you want reliability... Honda and Toyota both offer great reliability. (Toyota Corolla's and Honda Civic's would suit) If reliability is less of an issue, but you want a little more for your money, ie, in the performance area look at french cars like the 306 - you can buy a top of the range 99/00 model for about 5k...

Also the Clio sports are great for the money...

Focus is a good option. You can get 1.6 with a high spec, 2-3 year old one with low mileage, 5 door for £5k if not quite a bit less (£4k-ish). Any preference on colour, fuel type?

Like Roach says - Focus' are popular for a reason

You also wont go far wrong with VW - for that price you can comfortably get a Bora or a newish Golf
