    Weird Motion sickness

    FPS games

Anybody in the same boat as me?

I cant play games like COD, or Halo as they give me terrible motion sickness. Ever since the days of doom I've avoided these type of games.

Does a cure exist? Maybe they should make these games both first person and third person

Im glad im not the only one I cant understand why I can play certain FPS and not others I thought it was because certain games were set in inclosed areas but I can play Bioshock which is really quite claustrophobic and also far cry even then with side effects but not halo or half life!

maybe I should take travel pills!

I'm fine with everything, I thought, until I tried the demo of Marathon on xbox live arcade. This is one of their emulated games (read: old school) which is an ancestor of Halo, hence the marathon man achievement. Anyway I played it for about 20 minutes & even though I sit about 9ft from the telly I really did feel sick. If you want to test your motion sickness give this a try, or perhaps you'd be better off avoiding it.

edit - thinking about it now, that demo lacks free movement. It only has 4 degrees of freedom (it lacks pitch & yaw) whereas newer stuff like Halo have go anywhere see anything 6 degrees of freedom. I really think my motion sickness is to do with the constrained freedom of movement on Marathon.

No sympathy for the devil; keep that in mind. Buy the ticket, take the ride...

I remember having this discussion back when Wolfenstein first came out on the PC. It never affected me, but every one else I knew was moaning about it. But then, I don't have perfect vision, and I'm colourblind too, so maybe that has something to do with it, I don't know!

I find most games in general will make me feel a bit ''off'' if I play them for prolonged periods of time.

Nothing worse than going to bed closing your eyes and seeing images of mario64 jumping up and down collecting coins.

I've had it a couple of time with Half Life 2 on my PC, however I only get it the morning after a very heavy night and I'm feelin a bit dodgy anyway.

One thing that works wonders for me with real motion sickness is those travel wrist bands (you can buy them in Boots and the like), they put pressure on a certain point on your wrist. I've been on a boat feeling like the world is going to end and within five minutes of putting these on I'm feeling fine, I can read, drink, whatever. A lifesaver on long journeys.
I haven't tried them with games as I don't normally find it a problem (plus i don't play that many games any more) but they may help u out. Just a thought.

i suffered with this with that shite halo, so traded it in for cod 4, which is ok, i also suffer with it on older pc games as well, thought it was me.
It seems my head dont like shite games with bad frame rate, so as long as the game runs smooth then i dont spin out
