Burning Question poss FW question

I bought some Fortis Discs and a Pioneer from shop neo and managed to burn PGR4 fine,
however the disc with HL2 orange box comes up with a black screen. The xbox has been done with V5.2 firmware I believe.
I got it from a chap on here and he modded it for me. A'm I right in guessing it may need the firmware upgraded again to play HL2 ?

i've never had a bad burn on the aone/fortis media i've used since starting to burn games.

one of the lucky ones i guess...
