Default What is a good Forum software for my Website - Windows Hosting Server

I was hosting my website under linux in the past, but I have switched to Windows based on the fact that I am wanting to learn ASP.net at a later date.

I havent found many forum programs that run under windows. That is any open source or free ones.

I will not pay for it, since it is just temporary, and the only one I found was way to confusing for me.

Any suggestions on some forum software that runs under windows would be great.

The one I heard of, but dont want to try to install since it seems to confusing is from Axiologic, called PHP-Ajax MUMSAI.

There site seems to have many broken links so I cant seem to find much support documentation to help me.

    Any help would be great.

The should all run under windows if you install PHP and Perl. I personally use VBulletin both for my private WoW guilds forums and in the office on our intranet site. It's not free though...

If you want to check em out http://www.vbulletin.org

and with my old linux package, I had perl, but I dont think I can get it for my windows.

I am going to stay with windows only cause I will be soon wanting to learn like I said.. so I will do linux again sometime. I guess I can set up another hosting account for linux on another server, and just put a board on it.. anyways. I will look into these soon, I have other more serious issues first (Im refering to a thread http://www.digital-forums.com/showth...8&goto=newpost )

anyways.. once I sort that out, I will try these... any more suggestions would be great.

I would want vbulletin if I could do it under windows. Heck I may even pay for it.

it is possible to run php on windows, they might not have it installed though and prefer people to use linux for it.

Just create a file as I said above, put it on the server and try link to it (you don't need to create a link, just type in the url to the file)

Yeah - sounds to me like they want the Windows hosting to use ASP.

PHP does work on Windows - I have it and Apache installed on my XP laptop right now so there's no technical reason why it will not work but it is more than likely a commercial reason.

usually it outputs load of info about php if it's there

no need to keep it there once you've tested, just delete it

no it doesn't install a trojan, it's the php info page it's supposed to provide you with that info!

Don't be worried, you've removed it now. I use it all the time when I'm using a system I don't know, it allow me to easily see how php is setup. Just remove the file afterwards.

Not directly, it'll tell them how php is setup and what version is installed, which gives them an idea of hacks to use if php isn't patched and updated, it's more a problem for your host rather than yourself.
