Default XP SP2 Error, error code within

I am having a problem with SP2 on the laptop from my hardware post. I put the HD in another laptop and formatted then installed windows, all working fine, as soon as I install SP2 then I get a BSOD at startup. Error code is:

    STOP: 0x0000007E (0xc0000005, 0xF801A750, 0xF82A1430, 0xF82A112C)

The laptop has a AMD Sempron Mobile processor which I hear is one of the affected processors that have difficulties, although I tried editing the BOOT.INI file as suggested on a site I found but no help. It turned off a feature but I can't remember which.

Google brings up no results for the entire error code but lots of different results for the first bit of the code.

So can a pro please suggest some fix to me?

Thank you so much in advance, a lot of karma and thanks awaits the problem solver!!

Does it boot at all or just go straight to this?
Also you tried doing the install again. I know its a pain but quite often will just work the second time around.

Alternatively just don't install sp2 or download an xp cd that has it already built in.
That might be a quick fix.

Ok mate it boots up BIOS, goes to the XP loading screen (with the moving loading bar) then goes to BSOD.

I have rolled back in safe mode and tried SP2 installation from CD and online updater with same problem. I tried removing the RAM sticks like someone (I think possibly you?) suggested but bot RAM on their own had the same problem.

If I had an all-in-one disc I would try that, do you happen to have a source for one? I do have a XP SP2 integrated with all hotfixes up to Sept 2007 but for some reason it wouldn't work, think the supplied key was invalid

    Sent you PM.

Im really not sure, if it crashed during the SP2 update it normally fucks everything up.

The only other thing you could try uninstalling gfx card but I doubt thats the issue (or if you have on board gfx as well in which case just try it without the gfx card).

try booting to VGA mode instead of safe mode. That may give an indication of gfx card driver problems.

Otherwise I think just try the full xp install from SP2. Thats never had any problems for me.

Well a lot of problems I have read are associated with driver issues or a built in thing which I edited in the BOOT.INI. In safe mode I looked at my devices and checked all drivers were installed. I will try to disable the graphics driver.

    Cheers

If I don't install SP2 though won't the computer not get certain security updates etc.? I don't care if SP2 is on it or not as long as I continue to get security updates and it doesn't affect the computer. Also that the update process won't promt to download SP2 i nthe future.

I would just like to say a massive thank you to everyone who posted in this and my other thread. The problem was somehow solved by rolling back to SP1 then overwriting with XP Home SP2.

I am very happy today so thank you all so very much!
