one more thing for anyone thinking of doing this DONT, send it to someone to do it for you LOL
and if your chip is a gc2-d2b you need to take the above actions to achieve the required result

yeah, we know, we have been telling you that the entire thread!

can you actually re-assemble the wii with all that hot glue on there? I use a tiny amount if I bother at all, your solder should be 100x stronger than any glue if its a good join.

Hi I am a newbie here, just got a wii it's the same layout and chipset as yours got a wiikey chip the same as yours grinding down the prossessor wired it the same but wont play back-ups. Still playing original discs fine but not any back-ups is the a set up disc or anything else that could be stopping it?

It should run pal backups as soon as its installed, you would need to run the config disk to make it multiregion etc.

Im guessing you have a bad solder join somewhere, its very easy to bridge points on those exposed chip connections.

Make an intro in the relevant section too, and welcome to DF.

The right most wire (pin 5) *might* pop off if the Wii gets warm, might have to keep an eye on that, doesn't look like a solid connection. But congrats, dremeled my first last night but I haven't got a flux pen, my wires won't hold.

i've just used a piece of kynar awg30 wire to brush the contact with a small amount of lead free solder flux to get the wires to stick - it's more readily available than a flux pen.

    good luck with it mate

    hi waylin,

ALL of the wiikeys i have installed have needed the config disk to initially get them working. i got the image for the config disk from wiikeys website, but appears to be down at the minute.

i think you have to use the config disc when you have updated your wii's firmware past version 3.0

i have just insalled a couple of clone wiikeys and had to use a hex altered config v3.1 so i could just get to the config screen of the wiikey to alter the region setting.

once i had done that i could then run the 1.9 update and then SMG would work and everything would load just fine...
