Wii Anyone done a D2C yet?

I am going for it and wondered what people thought and if they have any advice that the instructions don't pick up on.

    Cheers

Check out some other threads mate, D2C has successfully been done by one of our members several times, I won't try it for a while to see if a better chip is released.

ive done a few now, catch me on msn if you get stuck mate.

theres about 3 different sets of points available, find the ones you find most comfortable doing, you need to make sure you dont obstruct the little circular plasic vent on the drive too.

I've done loads now. I use the points all round the D2C chip and I find it easiest. Just keep a dry soldering iron and check each point for solder spikes as you solder.

i dont think any retailers have them yet. They wont make the install any easier anyway, if you are un experienced at soldering they bring up the whole problem of overheating the plastic on the actual flexi thing too.
The main benefit to those things is to keep things neat and saves the time it would take to cut and strip 30 bits of wire

I'll second that, if modding with wires daunts you then stay well away from the ribbons etc. I find them more trouble than they are worth.

How do you tell if your wii will work with the wiikey or whether it will need this type of modchip(d2c)?

No dout your right but i wouldn't mind trying one as it does my nut in when i'm cutting and tinning so many wires (worst part of the install)

    thanks for your repies,

If your serial no. is LEH-135xxx and above then you will need a D2C key, but the only way to be 100% sure is to open it up and see what it written on the drive chip...it will either say DMS, D2A, D2B or D2C!

something i didn't realise till the other day, the D2C isnt updatable, so it was incredibly lucky they had already defeated the SMG protection before it was even released, imagine if it couldn't play Mario and people had just spent big bucks on a chip and install.
The other 2 chips that are due for D2C arnt looking to be updatable either

It states here that the ACTEL chip is flashable so it should be possible if required.

Oh cool, thanks. Mine is LEH-415XXX.

Looks like i'm most probably out of luck when it comes to the wiikey

Should have guessed, it's a fairly recent buy. Did Nintendo change the chip in order to defeat chips like the wiikey?
